The Lost Prince by Cait Marie
Hey Everyone,
You might have seen my coverage and review of The Last Summer by Cait Marie earlier this year. You can still find it on the blog section of the website! Well she’s done it again with The Lost Prince a sequel to The Lost Legends. I was able to get an interview with Cait for the release and can’t wait to share it with you all!
So this is the second book in the series, tell us a little bit about the challenges of writing a second book. Any tips or tricks you could provide for other series writers?
One of the biggest challenges was consistency and making sure everything aligned with book one. There is a made up story in The Lost Legends, but in this second book, I took two fairly well-known stories and twisted them into my own versions. And I needed them to still fit in with this world and timeline I had created. My advice for series writers is to plan ahead. If you're able to, plot out at least the big points of all your books before publishing the first one. Once it's published, you're not going to be able to go in and just change details to fit the sequels. Not without making a big deal out of it and warning readers of the changes before the next book.
We might see some tie ins to fairytales in these books, what is your favorite fairytale or folklore?
My favorite story is, in fact, Robin Hood. When writing The Lost Legends, it was initially planned as a standalone, but once I realized it was becoming a bit of a Robin Hood retelling, I went with it and let it grow into what it is now. It feels right that my debut series is so heavily tied in with this story. I'll let you in on a little secret too... in this book, you find out a little bit more about Loxley's sister, Willa, and her involvement with the secret society known as O' Chwedlau. They were all inspired by Robin Hood, his half-brother Will Scarlet, and his merry men. And Willa is eventually getting her own books!!
What is your favorite fairytale retelling? That you haven’t written yourself that is.
Oh, that's such a hard question! I love so many!! I think I have to go with The Shadow Queen by C. J. Redwine, which is a Snow White retelling and the first in a series. The whole series is phenomenal with each book focused on a different retelling that can be read on its own. But The Shadow Queen is one of my absolute favorite books in general. I think I've read it three times now in just the last few years.
I also cannot recommend M. Lynn's Fantasy and Fairytales series enough!!
Ada has a lot of great men in her life. For yourself personally would you fall more for a pirate or a guard?
Hmm... It would depend on their personality. If they were snarky but good on the inside like Lee or Hook from Once Upon a Time, or if they looked like Orlando Bloom in Pirates of the Caribbean, I'd definitely say pirate.
Can you give us a peek into your writing playlist?
Music is a huge part of my writing, and the playlist for this series is kind of all over the place. I frequently listened to The Hunger Games series scores, as well as the soundtracks/scores to Treasure Planet, Tangled, Doctor Who seasons 5-7, Harry Potter, and Frozen 2. Also on the playlist is a lot of Ruelle, The Lumineers, Florence + the Machine, and The Head and the Heart. Of course, I listen to the music from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies too! Below are a few of the more played songs:
The Energy Never Dies - The Script
I Don't Think Now is the Best Time - Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
Air Raid Drill - Mockingjay Part 1
On the topic of music, if you were to pick a theme song to swashbuckle to what would yours be?
Oh, another tough one! Let's go with Where We Come Alive by Ruelle. It's been my favorite song for about a year and half, since I heard it on the finale of Shadowhunters. It's just so good... I even want some of the lyrics as a tattoo!
"Out of the shadows
and into the light"
In your blurb for The Lost Prince you talk about secrets, any personal writing secrets you could share?
Don't overthink. Just write.
I often hear people talk about getting stuck on part of their book, and my advice is to skip it and move on. If that part isn't coming to you, write the parts you're excited about or inspired to work on. You can always go back and fill in the gaps later.
The Review!
Cait Marie never disappoints!
Once again Cait delivers on a wild ride! The characters we fell in love with in book one are back and at it again for book two! The siblings still trying to save their people. Filled with magic and mystery this story doesn’t miss a beat. Drawn in by the beautiful cover? You won’t be disappointed picking this book up! Just make sure you’ve read The Lost Legends first! This author has proven she has the ability to weave engaging, nail-biting, fall-in-love-with stories time and time again. Read the rest of her work when you're done with this!

A superb read! Vi is strong, passionate, and amazing. I fell in love with her journey as she begins to discover who she is and what she stands for. This book has all the thrills, excitement, and girl power you could ever need. The characters are amazingly written and their relationships and interactions with each other are wonderfully crafted. Throw in that sweet friends to beginning lovers and you have the perfect book! I am very excited for the next book to see where Vi goes next!!!
